Lakeside Union School District is a leader in integrating scratch cooking and scratch baking techniques into their districts’ school meal program. The USDA Food and Nutrition Services announced LUSD was one of the six national Champions of Breakfast Award winners from the state of California, due to their success in boosting breakfast meal quality and participation through the use of scratch cooking to improve meal quality and increase cost effectiveness.

Sally Spero, Child Nutrition Director, Leigh-Ann Bozung, Child Nutrition Lead, Jim Dumars, Executive Chef and the rest of the central kitchen team pride themselves on making food that sends the message to their students that they do care. In addition to the tasty treats created by Sally and her team, the district also feature weekly Harvest of the Month items on their salad bars.
